BUILDING RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE FOR TOMORROW’S EDUCATION (BRITE) PROJECT
With the support of ADRA Korea, ADRA Sri Lanka successfully completed the BRITE Project at Glassgow Tamil Vidyalayam in the Nuwara Eliya area. The project included the renovation of the primary school building and play area, as well as the construction of a new school fence.
The reopening ceremony was held at the school on August 14, with the participation of the local education director, government officials, teachers, parents, and students. Representatives of ADRA Korea, which funded the project, representatives of ADRA Sri Lanka, which coordinated its implementation, and the Ceylon Mission president and his wife were also invited. Together with the school community, they celebrated the completion of the project and received heartfelt expressions of appreciation.
For many years, students had to study in an aging school building under difficult conditions. Through this renovation, they can now continue their education in a safer, more comfortable, and more supportive learning environment. School officials, parents, and students expressed their sincere gratitude to ADRA Korea and ADRA Sri Lanka for helping improve the school’s facilities.
The project was initiated by ADRA Sri Lanka after identifying the needs of the local community. ADRA Korea then raised the necessary funds in partnership with Sahmyook elementary schools across Korea. The project was especially meaningful because Korean students participated in the fundraising effort and helped bring practical improvements to the educational environment of children in Sri Lanka.
Following the successful completion of this year’s project, ADRA Korea has committed to continuing its support for educational improvement projects for Sri Lankan children in 2027. In particular, it plans to support the reconstruction of the “Kids’ Corner,” a children’s educational facility at Lakpahana College.
